CBCF

The CBCF / Connecticut Burns Care Foundation is a non-profit organization that I have had the honor to serve for over twenty years. Their mission is to respond to the needs of burn survivors, promote fire safety and prevention, and to support the Arthur C. Luf Children’s Burn Camp. The Burn Camp has existed since 1991 to give kids ages 8-17 a safe, natural outdoor environment where kids with life-altering burn injuries can participate in a normal camp environment with others who have been through similar traumas and experiences while making life-long friends, building self-esteem, and overcoming their anxieties. Their motto, “Where a kid can be a kid”, says it all.

WEBSITE REDESIGN

Over the years, the website has gone through several iterations as technologies has evolved from a basic HTML/CSS website to moving to WordPress using WPBakery, to our current site built with Divi. I’ve been there throughout to help keep the CBCF up-to-date while keeping within their budget.

This latest design needed to have some punch, look joyful, and be fully responsive. Through this site, users are able to learn about the Foundation and the Burn Camp, read the latest news, and find out what fundraising events are being held. In addition, with the integration of an outside application, users are now not only able to donate online, but also purchase tickets for fundraising events hosted by the CBCF.

LOGO DESIGN

Over the years, there have been two logos associated with the Connecticut Burns Foundation: the main CBCF logo and the Arthur C. Luf Children’s Burn Camp logo. They had been used simultaneously and sometimes interchangably, which was confusing in terms of branding.

The CBCF wanted to be able to have a single logo that would show that they are the “parent” and the Camp, the “child”, so only one logo would be needed. The Camp logo is well-loved and well-recognized, so I wanted to respect that while retaining aspects of the original CBCF logo to make the change less jarring.

Also, the old CBCF logo wasn’t designed to be used in both square and horizontal layouts, which is especially important when trying to brand between the website, collateral, and social media.

The solution was a blend of both logos, making the Foundation the dominant entity. The Camp logo could now be used for instances where only the Camp is involved, while the new CBCF logo could be used consistently throughout their fundraising collateral, publicity, and media.

SOCIAL MEDIA / MOTION GRAPHICS

In order to reach out to current and potential donors as well as families that might benefit from the CBCF and the Arthur C. Luf Children’s Burn Camp, it was necessary to establish a social media presence.

Facebook and Instagram are used to keep followers up-to-date with the latest fundraising events, news, recent donors, and the Burn Camp itself when it is in session. We are currently overhauling our X account and developing a plan for TikTok.

Their YouTube was originally just for posting videos from local newscasts, but it has grown into a place for a video podcast highlighting “CBCF Champions” who help the organization continue to success and for the Executive Director to provide a more personal touch to their followers with his “Director’s Minute”. We are in the midst of rebranding both of these to conform to the new logo and branding standards.

It is also the perfect place to post videos of Burn Camp when in session as well as a video slideshow wrap-up of each year. The 2025 video slideshow was created in Animoto and will be featured at the 2025 annual fundraising gala.
